Want to paint an "old master"?

From Rembrandt to Renoir, Vermeer to Van Gogh, Titian to Turner, have you ever wanted to try painting your own “Old Master”? This workshop is an opportunity to have fun doing just that. The 2 ½ day workshop will be held at the Visual Arts of Livonia (VAAL) classroom, located in the New Village Shopping Plaza, 36753 Five Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan. The dates of the workshop are Friday, June 12, 10 am to 4 pm; Saturday, June 13, 10 am to 4 pm; and Monday, June 15, 9 am to 12 pm.
Using a good reproduction of one of your favorite old master artworks, we’ll look at the underlying structure, process and thought that went into making the painting. Then we’ll do some exercises that will lead to a finished study. Using your favorite medium, you can choose to make a painting recognizably similar to the original or you can use the “old master” as a launching point for your own new interpretation. The choices are yours and the goal is to have fun!
This class is open to all students, adult and serious teen, from advanced beginner level and up. Bring your own familiar drawing/painting supplies* or use the materials list for recommendations. More details, as well as the materials list, will be available soon on the VAAL website, www.vaalart.org . For more questions about class content, you can also e-mail me directly at [email protected].
*Use a medium that you already know well. Your choice of oil, acrylic, pastel, gouache or watercolor are recommended media. Colored pencil might be too slow a medium for this exercise, but of course students are welcome to use that too.
